The Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities, Violante Tomás, together with the mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, and the president of Asprodes, Father Ángel Alegría, visited today the residence of people with disabilities `The Servants'.
During his visit, he explained that Asprodes receives from the Murcia Institute of Social Action IMAS more than 3.4 million euros for the care of people with intellectual disabilities, which allow them to finance 202 places in their day center, residence, and residence for people with chronic mental illness.
According to him, "from Asprodes they are doing an exemplary work of inclusion of people with disabilities, their residents are already an active part of the Lorca society, thanks to the services and workshops in which they participate. , rabbit farm, egg product, carpentry, bakery and pastry, agriculture and gardening, among others ".
The "Servants" residence, which the counselor visited today, provides comprehensive assistance to 60 people with intellectual disabilities, providing them with the highest degree of autonomy and developing their intervention in different areas.
In her they elaborate programs of occupational therapy and programs of personalized attention.
In addition to its centers in the city of Lorca, this association has a residence for free time in Águilas, where people with disabilities spend their holidays.
The counselor said that "after several years working with users, observing and detecting their needs and concerns, Asprodes managers saw that, in addition to offering an occupational center, it was necessary to create a leisure and rest center, in that especially those users who lacked family and who resided in the center 365 days a year had the possibility to enjoy in a different environment to the one that welcomed them daily ".
Asprodes, was created in 1978 with the purpose of responding to a group of parents of the region who met with the intention of carrying out the necessary work to help the nearly 1,000 people with disabilities that were at that time .
Little by little, Asprodes grew to become what it is today, a non-profit association whose purpose is the comprehensive care of people with intellectual disabilities and mental illness, offering them a wide variety of services and care programs aimed primarily at the conservation of an optimal quality of life.
The Autonomous Community awarded the prize 'Person of the year 2016' to the president of this association, Father Angel Alegría, for his work at the helm of this association since its founding.
4,036 places for people with disabilities
In the Region of Murcia throughout this term have created a total of 461 places of residential care, day center and promotion of autonomy, of which 224 correspond to people with intellectual disabilities, 195 to people with chronic mental illness and 42 people with physical disabilities.
To date, the 4,036 places have been reached in the centers of attention to people with disabilities and people with chronic mental illness, of which 587 belong to centers belonging to the regional Administration and 3,449 correspond to concerted centers.
In addition, during the year 2017, 4,188 children under 6 years of age with developmental disorders were paid through the financing of Early Care services.
The Regional Administration also finances the care of more than 9,000 people with physical or sensory disabilities through nominative grants and direct grants aimed at carrying out activities and providing services by federations and associations of persons with disabilities.
The counselor said that "a great budgetary effort is being made to finance direct care for more than 17,000 people with disabilities or chronic mental illness in the Region, and we will continue working with the objective of creating more places for them."
