The PSOE will once again bring to the Plenary the concern about the depopulation that affects the districts of the municipality.
The Lorca socialists will present a motion to restore banking services eliminated in districts, and to improve access to new technologies with improvements in the signaling of DTT channels and the installation of WiFi zones in rural areas
The PSOE deputy spokesperson, Marisol Sanchez has announced that they will present a motion, for the next ordinary plenary session, so that the City Council negotiates with the banks with the aim of restoring the banking services that have been disappearing during the last years due to the continuous closure of the offices in districts.
Among other measures, the PSOE requests that it be negotiated to put into operation the so-called "ofibus", with which to attend by route those towns without banking offices.
This petition is included in a motion with which the PSOE seeks to bring certain "basic" services to improve the quality of life of the residents of the districts, especially those that are affected by the "suffocation" of policies and public investments of the Party Popular towards the councils, and the lack of "essential services of the XXI century" which, he says, "are already exceeded in most of the territory."
The PSOE, collecting these petitions from residents of the districts, wants to open a negotiation process with financial institutions, in collaboration with the City of Lorca, in order to find a legal formula to restore financial services in the districts affected by the 'financial blackout'.
The PSOE warns that, between 2008 and 2016, they have closed more than 17,000 banking offices of which the municipality of Lorca is no stranger.
Many districts of our municipality as La Parroquia, Coy, Zarzadilla de Totana or Avilés, have seen how little by little they have been closing their banking offices before the passivity of the institutions.
Sánchez Jódar warns that the peculiarity that our districts have is the high population of people with advanced age, who do not have a digital domain to operate through Internet and in many cases do not have the possibility of moving to other locations to do the banking procedures, to which is added the difficulty of accessing the network that currently exists due to lack of coverage or signal.
In terms of communications and new technologies, the PSOE will ask the Plenary that the City of Lorca choose the European project WiFi4EU in its different phases with the aim that all the districts of our municipality can have WiFi and free Internet connection in its squares and public buildings, "to facilitate access to all citizens equally."
As the Federation of Municipalities has done, since the PSOE also want to inform the PP government team, that the registration phase for this project is underway since March 20, being the application phase for the first call in mid-May.
In this way, the registered municipalities can opt for the first batch of 1,000 15,000 euro bonds.
The project has 120 million euros from the EU budget until 2020. Therefore, the mayor urges the PP to get to work "to not miss this opportunity."
Similarly, the PSOE will fully implement something as "basic and elementary" as it is the reception of DTT channels.
Unfortunately, he says, "today, in hundreds of homes in the districts it is impossible to tune into your favorite television channels."
