The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, this morning attended the ceremony in which school students have read texts against sexist attacks and groups have released balloons in memory of the victims.

The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, and Councilwoman Women, Antonia Lopez, have participated in this morning's events in the Plaza of Spain by the Federation of Women's Organizations of the municipality to promote awareness among young Lorca against macho aggression on the occasion of World Day Against Gender Violence.

During the ceremony the students have read their statement condemning the violence and solidarity with the victims, after which balloons were released in memory of women murdered by their partners or former partners in the past year.

Jodar has called for citizen participation in the march which will start this afternoon at 18:30 from Plaza Calderon to the Plaza of Spain, where he kept a minute of silence in remembrance of the victims, journalists Antonio Montoro Tere Martínez and read a manifesto, after which he will remember the names of the fatalities recorded so far this year, while there will be a wreath in his memory.

Antonia Lopez has indicated that the campaign this year has given a number of support elements.

These posters and pamphlets alluding to the call for civic progress on 25 November and white ribbons, symbolic of the people who reject violence against women, are the elements that contribute to the dissemination of the proceedings.

In concrete figures, we are talking about 300 posters on the overall campaign, 1,000 on the call, 10,000 and 10,000 information leaflets white ribbons.

The events are supported by 211 organizations and associations Lorca, who have expressed explicit support for the initiative.
