On Tuesday 21 December (10 to 12 and 17 to 19 hours) Young Socialists Lorca Alameda installed on the columns a stall selling chocolate and fair trade candy whose benefit will go to the ROKA Project, a action being done by the NGOs 'International Solidarity' in the city of Kaédi, Mauritania, to train youth and women.
So Lorca Socialist Youth will participate in the solidarity campaign under the slogan "You made by walking", is to demand the continued efforts in international cooperation, and sensitize the public to become involved and claim that development assistance remains a political priority.
In this regard, the secretary general of Socialist Youth of Lorca, Ana Belén Hilario, has warned about the impact that the current economic crisis has had on development cooperation programs and the poorest countries, and called on all government, including the City of Lorca, to put the necessary means to avoid that when we emerge from the crisis is being devoted less money and international cooperation efforts.
From Socialist Youth has been pointed out that currently more than one billion people, 70% of them women, live in extreme poverty (less than a dollar a day), that there are 1,800 million people without access to drinking water and 840 million people suffering malnutrition.
All this inequality may seem to us very far, especially now that we are facing serious problems directly affecting the welfare of thousands of citizens on our side, but the reality is that improving the living conditions of all those millions of people who just have to put in their mouths is not only a moral obligation, a matter of principle, but also reversed also on improving so-called developed societies.
For Hidalgo, "Ending Hunger, inequality and ensure a better future for many millions of human beings will make our world safer, freer and fairer for all."
