The Minister of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, accompanied by the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, today inaugurated the bus station in the municipality, following the implementation of the extension and improvement works funded by the regional government and the City.
The action is the culmination of the second phase of renovation of infrastructure, including the construction of a waiting room for independent travelers of the new platforms, with air conditioning, PA system and information panels that collect, in real time the times of arrival and departure of individual vehicles.
Following the work carried out, the bus station, which recorded an average of 600,000 passengers a year, has 12 docks.
Also carried out work to improve accessibility and safety of passengers.
José Ballesta said: "The aim of this initiative is to improve the quality of public transport is provided both Lorca and visitors who come to town, and to promote sustainable mobility in the region through the modernization of this infrastructure, thanks to work carried out, with better accessibility and facilities adapted to the needs of travelers. "
The first and second phase of expansion and improvement of the station has a total investment of 516,525 euros.
The Ministry of Public Works and Planning has funded 75 percent of the total project cost while the municipality of Lorca has contributed the remaining 25 percent.
The performance also included the paving of the movement area and the apron buses and the installation of a new sewerage system.
Also, through the first phase of the project was carried out of an office building to the public, the enlargement of the premises for the cafeteria-restaurant and the renovation of sanitary facilities, Setpoint, billing and administrative offices and inspection.
