Andaltia Lorca projected in the most central of photovoltaic solar energy production in the world (22/03/2011)

The Minister of Universities and Research Company, Salvador Marín, accompanied by the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar and Andaltia president, Antonio Galera, today introduced the solar photovoltaic project that the group raised in Lorca and represents a major production facility of this type of energy currently planned in the world capable of generating electricity to power 200,000 homes.

The photovoltaic solar power plant of 400 megawatts (MW) also stands out because thanks to R & D and economies of scale will be able to produce electricity under normal, ie non-primate, and once completed and operation will generate 590 direct jobs, which must be added the synergies of indirect jobs generated.

The plant will be developed in four phases.

The first will have an investment of 114 million euros and will need a thousand workers for the launch of the first phase of 40 MW of power, the second will be 50 MW at a cost of 142 million and employ 1,300 people.

The last two are most important, 150 and 160 MW respectively, investments of more than 425 million euros and 3,000 workers need for their development and implementation.

This initiative within the Industrial plans for Attracting Investment in the Region of Murcia launched by the Government Valcárcel, born of the joint work of the Ministry with the business group, which together with the outstanding weather and solar radiation of the Region to develop solar energy and industrial development and regional research in this sector have led to Murcia Andaltia to gravitate to other options.

Marín said that "the project stands out for its uniqueness and interest, and not limited to the construction of the plant production of renewable energy high innovative component, but Andaltia implies a commitment to work with businesses in the Region as well as universities and technology centers and research Murcia, collaborating with them in the corporate group's international projects. "

Also, the Minister recalled that the Business Opportunities Service launched by the Community for the Shire of Guadalentín already stressed the enormous potential for developing renewable energy related businesses in this area of the region.

In fact, Andaltia with the participation of regional firms in the construction, installation, maintenance and operation of the proposed Lorca, as well as on the ground that the group developed in New Mexico and other future projects, such as those with Mediterranean Solar Plan, promoted by the European Union to build 20 GW of solar PV in Northern Africa.

"The synergies generated by the development of the draft Lorca, for which the business group has already reached an agreement with the owners of the 800 acres it needs for its implementation, and use the region as a platform for projects in the North Africa has generated a number of companies have shown interest and willingness to build factories in the region, "said Marin.

In fact, companies like SunPower, SunTech and Schneider Electric are in advanced negotiations with Andalatia to work together in the Region of Murcia.

Project Development

Andaltia expects to complete the conceptual development of the plant and have the administrative authorizations, which the Community makes a mediating role in the earliest possible date to begin construction in 2013.

In fact, the Ministry has already held meetings with the Ministry of Industry and Spanish Red Electrica, who have shown interest in the degree of innovation involved, as well as its social and economic benefits.

At the conclusion of the construction of the four phases of the investment project in renewables, the power Lorca can generate clean electricity consumption of 200,000 households, avoiding the emission of 572,893 tons of carbon dioxide and the use of 200,000 tons oil equivalent (toe) per year, which would be necessary to produce this electricity.

Currently, the Region of Murcia has an installed capacity of photovoltaic solar energy more than 300 megawatts of power, which is leading the national production area installation.
