The Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain will participate in the restoration of all the defensive architecture of the town of Murcia
The Directorate General of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture has undertaken, through its Emergency Unit and Risk Management, an assessment of the damage to cultural heritage of the municipality of Lorca, after the earthquake occurred on Wednesday .
This unit, managed by the IPCE and integrated by a multidisciplinary team of technical specialists in the preservation of cultural property, immediately moved to the area affected by the earthquake and has made an initial diagnosis of cultural property damaged.
The analysis, prepared by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the Directorate General of Heritage in the Region of Murcia and Heritage Service of the Municipality of Lorca, reveals that one of the damaged cultural property in which the intervention is a priority are the walls Castle and the Tower of Ram.
The walls have landslides in some of the sections and the tower, meanwhile, shows damaged factories around its perimeter, with detachments of the upper section in some sections.
Also the angles of the factories have suffered obvious damage for loss of material.
For this reason, it has agreed an emergency operation, led by the architect Francis Johnston, the restoration of the iconic set of defensive architecture of the town of Murcia.
The construction company Acciona will assist the Ministry of Culture in this necessary project.
