The regional government is focusing its efforts to restore normalcy as soon as possible in schools affected by the earthquake (13/05/2011)

At the beginning of next week resume their classes to 80 percent of elementary and primary schools of the municipality

The Minister of Education, Training and Employment, Sotoca Constantine, reported after the meeting of the Governing Council held in extraordinary Lorca, actions made by the Community in the network of educational institutions affected by the earthquake in the term municipality of Lorca, and stressed that the government "is making all efforts to restore normalcy as soon as possible in the education network to reduce the impact of this unfortunate event has occurred."

Sotoca said that during yesterday's technical team of the Department visited all the schools in Lorca to determine the damage caused by earthquakes and paid special attention to the impact they have caused in the structure of buildings.

The main objective was to "ensure that each and every one of them met the necessary conditions to ensure the safety and normal development of the educational activity," said the counselor.

With respect to infant and primary schools, the Minister announced that there is to relocate units from six primary and three other children from schools that have to teach classes in the afternoon shift at other centers in the municipality.

In this sense, Sotoca moved that "now is being carried out this complex task and in determining the final redistribution will be communicated to the educational community."

The remaining schools have suffered minor damage and require cleanup and debris removal for use.

Jobs which, after assessing the damage, "have begun to address immediately and expect them to be completed during the first days of next week," said Sotoca.

As for secondary education institutions, the Minister explained that there are three centers that can not open its doors in what remains of course: Ros Giner, José Ibáñez Martín and IES Ramón Arcas.

The rest said Sotoca, will start their classes "normal" next week, with the exception of IES San Juan Bosco, who will next May 23, after they perform the repair and cleaning of some areas.

Relocations and new shifts

To solve the education of students who have been directly affected, the Department is designing a new shift schedule distribution and infrastructure building nearby that are available.

In the case of primary schools, students of the college of San Fernando will move in the afternoon at the school premises Juan González, and José Robles the afternoon to attend school Villa Thick.

Also, students of the Virgen de las Huertas afternoon go to school Pasic Campillo.

With respect to the centers that have affected wards Elementary, the Ministry will place the first cycle of primary school San Jose, in the afternoon, the Children's Pavilion.

The second and third cycles García Soler go to school in the afternoon.

For its part, the students of Alfonso X the Wise will be placed in the afternoon in the school premises Pérez de Hita, and Sacred Heart will go in the afternoon to San Cristobal.

In secondary education, students of IES Ramón Arcas begin to receive lessons in the afternoon at the Prince of Asturias IES, and IES students Ibanez Martin reprise their afternoon classes at IES San Juan Bosco on Monday, May 23.

As students of IES Giner Ros, will move to the Rambla de Nogalte Institute of Puerto Lumbreras to attend classes in the evening from Wednesday, May 19.

School hours will be 9:00 to 14:00 and 15:00 to 20:00 at the stage of childhood and primary, and from 8:30 to 14:30 and 15:30 to 21:30 hours secondary.

Right now they are taking all necessary steps to organize the start of classes as well as transportation of schoolchildren who need to transfer to other centers.

So Sotoca confident that "before the end of next week classes are already developing normally."

He stressed the importance of maintaining "close coordination and collaboration" between the regional and local administrations, and appealed for understanding of the entire educational community, which guaranteed every effort to return rapidly to normal activity centers .

Learning support

In addition to organizational actions and instruments, the Ministry has provided some of a psycho to help alleviate the significant stress symptoms that may occur to students, families and teachers in the earthquake.

In this regard, said Sotoca put at its disposal a team of educational advisers, psychologists and technical staff from community services (three per site), which will provide advice and materials needed to confront, understand and assimilate the situation .
