The Directorate General of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture has initiated various actions for the recovery of cultural property in Lorca, damaged in last week's earthquake and to ensure its future preservation.
The Ministry of Culture, through the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain has started emergency response in the Castle of Lorca for the consolidation and restoration of the Tower of Ram and sections of walls collapsed in the earthquake.
The work will be directed by the architect Francisco Jurado and executed by the company Acciona, and have a budget of 1,033,000 euros.
Lorca also found on two technicians from the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain, in coordination with the Center for Restoration of the Region of Murcia, will analyze the damage to the parts of the collections of the Archaeological Museum and schedule performances Lorca necessary for restoration.
The Ministry of Culture has given to the Autonomous Region and the Municipality of Lorca the development, coordination and financing of a Recovery Plan for Cultural Heritage of Lorca, to be drafted during the month of June and come into effect from 1st July.
This plan will be to coordinate all actions and find the resources needed to achieve in five years, the total recovery of cultural property in the city of Lorca damaged by the earthquake.
