The digital network of emergency communications in the Community (RADIECARM network), allowing secure communications to all emergency services in the Region of Murcia after the earthquakes in Lorca on 11 May.
This communications network, which guarantees coverage throughout the Region, was not affected by the earthquake and through it the army, firefighting equipment, health services, Civil Defence and Security Forces were able to coordinate effectively.
This disaster tested communications in the Region of Murcia.
Telephony, both fixed and mobile, was unable to service the high demand of calls that occurred during the afternoon of May 11 and the following night.
RADIECARM, however, kept going and gave the same communication facilities provided by the network to effective emergency deployed in the city.
The deployment of this radio network in 2003 was led by the Directorate General of Civil Protection of the Community and the Consortium for Fire Fighting and Rescue Region of Murcia, a contract awarded by 4.8 million euros to EU Venture Company formed by Abertis Telecom and Telecommunications Omnilogic (currently Emte Systems).
Since 2007, the network is operational and RADIECARM are embedded in it the main emergency services operating within the regional territory, such as emergency services and civil protection of local councils, health, fire, environmental agents, forest and police squads local, inter alia, through about 2,000 user terminal equipment.
RADIECARM is based on the TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) as the only standard that meets the European Standards Institute of Telecommunications.
Currently provides coverage in 95 percent of the territory of the Community by an infrastructure of base stations 25 are interconnected by a transportation network that connects with the network switch, installed in the Coordination Centre of Emergency Murcia.
