40 young people from Bulgaria, Poland, Romania and Spain have been for 7 days in Lorca made a recreation of the European Parliament in which they have made a dozen proposals to improve the European Union through a program organized by the Intercultural Cazalla with collaboration of the Youth Council of the City Lorca.
This project, called Talk Europe, was held from 9 to 16 December and is funded by the Youth in Action Programme of the European Union and has enabled its participants to understand the functioning of the European Parliament and its functions, which have changed after Lisbon Treaty, and thus feel responsible for the future of the European Union and initiate a debate on European issues.
The project has been developed in different areas, such as the University of Lorca, the Scout Center and City Hall.
In the latter were held plenary sessions, young people taking a full part of politicians and creators of new ideas and decisions to solve current problems.
This has created working groups to respond to the scheme of the political groups in Parliament.
Decisions made by these working groups will be discussed in committees and plenary sessions, and be voted upon.
In this way, young people have a unique opportunity to participate and understand democracy, to discover how political decisions affect the lives of citizens and are a useful weapon to improve society.
In www.europahabla.org website you can find all the information on this project.
Youth Councillor Agustin Llamas, thanked Lorca choice to host this event to encourage youth participation and to inform citizens of other countries the situation that our city is suffering after the May 11 earthquake.
