The Ministry of the Presidency, through the Directorate General of Environment, has completed the infrastructure works of adaptation in the mountains of public utility 'The Culebrina and Valdeinfierno', located in the town of Lorca.
The project has been funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), with an investment of 163,700 euros, generating more than 400 wage-workers.
The aim of these actions has been to improve existing infrastructure and provide the area of ​​new ways to enhance its capacity to welcome and encourage educational uses, interpretation and environmental education.
Also, environmental pathways is to promote ecotourism visits and meet the needs of leisure and recreational visitors and in turn, sensitize the population on the natural values ​​of these protected areas.
The mountains of 'Culebrina and Valdeinfierno' are included in the Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA) 'Sierra del Gigante-Pericay, Lomas del Vulture-Rio Luchena and Sierra de la Torrecilla', considered as a Site of Community Interest (LIC) in the 'Sierra del Gigante'.
Among the actions taken, is the construction of a lookout in the mountains of Pericay, near the hill of La Carrasca, which consists of a gravity retaining wall, built of masonry hydraulic concrete floor and galvanized steel railing.
Next to him, has installed an interactive panel with information on the panoramic view and place names.
Adequate infrastructure have also been in the nursery of the Culebrina, with the reconstruction and integration of six boxes and a pipe and repair of 50 linear feet of fencing.
Environmental routes
Regarding the improvement of environmental pathways, there have been clearing and pruning of vegetation along paths of 1,630 meters and the widening and improvement of the firm over 1419 meters.
The performances have also involved the construction of three sections of concrete stairs, the reconstruction of a wall of 400 meters in length, the installation of a wooden railing section of 45 meters and placement of interpretive signage and directional along the nature trails.
Finally, recreational areas, have undertaken restoration work at the picnic, furniture and items of ethnographic interest, construction of drainage ditches, performances silvicultural thinning and pruning, and installation of information signage.
In addition, 22 units have been removed from barbecues to reduce the risk of forest fires in the area.
