Saving measures that were implemented by the municipal administration four years ago are bearing fruit.
2011 closes with surplus accounted for 5.8 million, although this amount relates to items finalists for recovery from earthquakes.
The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, along with Councillor for Economy and Finance, Luis Amador, reported the state of municipal accounts resulting in year-end for the year 2011.
The figures indicate that the City closed 2011 with an accounting surplus of 5.8 billion euros, and that can reduce total debt by nearly EUR 5.1 million, lowering debt both with suppliers and contractors (who falls in 3, 5 million) as the bank (which is cut by 2 million).
The Mayor explained that in fact these 5'8 million relates to items finalists whose purpose is to recover after earthquakes.
This is the case of money from 1% Cultural, solidarity and aid of various entities.
This amount must be audited and issued in the municipal accounts, although their aim is already materialized.
Apart from these contributions, the City closed 2011 with a balanced budget (ie a minimum deficit of 0.4%).
Lorca Mayor has stated that "this is a very positive accounts for Lorca.
They are the result of an austerity policy implemented by the municipal administration since we started our work in 2007.
It is particularly significant deficit data, we have made it to zero in 4 years.
The balanced budget of 2011 confirms that the adjustment cost saving measures implemented since 2007 and were necessary.
We have been working in the right direction and we succeeded.
Saving measures were assumed as part of municipal officials and councilors themselves, a joint effort is achieving the goal of balancing the accounts.
The figures find that belt tightening is paying off. "
Francisco Jodar has stressed that the accounting surplus of 2011 is especially important, since it has managed to "have to face the worst case scenario, first received a legacy of bankruptcy, then we hit the worst economic and employment crisis in living memory, and 2011 Lorca suffered the worst natural disaster in recent centuries.
