This is an initiative coordinated by the Geological Society of Spain (SGE), and has the support of the Spanish Association for the Teaching of Earth Sciences (AEPECT) and the Geological Survey of Spain (IGME) and the city of Lorca.

Councilman Works and Municipal Services City of Lorca, Angel Mecca, together with the coordinator in our city of "Geolodía" Juan Antonio Lopez, have reported that on Sunday May 6 thousands of people have the opportunity to enjoy a picnic, accompanied by geologists.
The tours will be completely free and open to all audiences, regardless of knowledge of geology of the attendees.
"Geolodía 12" is an outreach initiative of the geology and the profession through a geologist of his most appealing to the general public, field trips.
The 50 excursions offered on sites ranging from urban environments to protected natural areas, will be guided by geologists belonging to various institutions, scientific societies and associations.
Geolodía12 is a journey that opens the door to the usual laboratory for geologists, nature.
It aims at complying with "eyes geological" the environment in which to settle our people and understand, through the effects on the surface, some of the running processes of the earth on which we live.
Another of the important goals of this journey is to publicize the work of geologists and what they, as scientists and professionals, can contribute to society and their welfare.
It also wants to raise awareness of our geological heritage to raise awareness of the importance and need for protection.
LORCA GEOLODÃA 12
On Sunday May 6, 2012 marks the Geolodía in the region of Murcia.
This time we have chosen a tour of the surrounding city of Lorca that we believe is a welcome surprise to all participants and that the city has a spectacular and varied geological heritage.
Over a distance of about 2.5 km, 7 stops will be located where geologists from different specialties give short informative explanations.
Those attending the 2012 may play Lorca Geolodía failure that caused the May 11 earthquake and tectonic understand the context in which our region is.
They explain how to arose the attention of our younger peninsula: the Sierra Valley Tercia creating Guadalentín, and discover how Serrata shows desiccation of the Mediterranean Sea 6 million years ago.
Also be observed in fossil beaches that Lorca had 10 million years ago and recognize the fossils contained in the rocks and the materials used to construct the Collegiate Church of St. Patrick or the iconic columns of the Malls.
Learn something of the geological history of the city and its surroundings, where there are rocks over 200 million years and more recent ones that have shaped the customs and usages that the locals have given the ground along the history of our city.
And is that geology is a science that has much to teach: geological heritage is part of our cultural heritage.
The meeting place will be at the door of the IES No. 6, near the University Campus of Lorca, in front of the IES is a platform where you can park.
The tour will take place in a free, between 9:30 and 14:00 h.
The total duration of the itinerary, including explanations, will be approximately 3 hours and will be aimed at all audiences and all ages.
