The Minister for Universities and Research Company, José Ballesta, along with the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, and executives from Union For Leather, opened today in this county facilities of the Russian company, a project that, according to the counselor, is part of the Special Plan for Attracting Investment to Lorca, which has among its priorities the attraction of foreign capital in the face to revitalize the economy of the municipality.
The commissioning of this new industry, which devotes its activity to the tanning industry, specifically in the manufacture of footwear, leather or upholstery, an investment of seven million euros for the Lorca municipality.
For José Ballesta, "which implies needs skilled labor, as the company expects to achieve in early 2013 the largest volume of production, which will require to employ about a hundred workers."
The Special Plan for Attracting Investment to Lorca, approved by the Standards Board for Enterprise, Business, aims to identify the key factors to attract investment capital and analyze the situation in the region of face to revitalize its economy.
Among the actions for improvement that includes the plan is increasing the budget on research and development, the promotion of institutional relations, the promotion of training specifically related, for example, the food industry, the creation of a cluster livestock, industrial upgrading and support for the implementation of plans to improve energy efficiency in order to encourage the development of a business network related to efficiency and renewables.
In this regard the Minister noted that "the highest priority for the reconstruction of Lorca, outside the scope of public support, is attracting investments to the city have an established business network and generate wealth and quality employment" .
A leader in the sector
The Union Company For Leather has become one of the largest suppliers of leather in Europe, as well as exporting to the world 48 percent of its production.
Its main customers include Italy, Portugal, France, Finland, Turkey, China, Vietnam, India and Pakistan.
Also, the multinational has an extensive network of offices in Russia, the CIS countries (comprising 10 of the 15 former Soviet republics), China, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Poland.
The Minister José Ballesta, said "we have a company that has managed to combine in the production process the key tools for success, quality, innovation and internationalization."
And said that "attracting such investments, Lorca achieve a speedy recovery of its economy and the consolidation of a productive capable of generating employment."
Industrial recovery
Recently, regional and central government have launched a line of incentives for industrial redevelopment of Lorca worth 13 million euros, with the possibility of extended until 2013, could reach up to 26 million euros over two years for industrial fabric of the municipality.
These incentives are designed for both industrial infrastructure affected by earthquakes, and for the development of new initiatives.
Thus, be granted one million euros in grants, and the remaining 12 million in repayable loans covering in some cases up to 75 percent of the budget financed with an interest rate of 0 percent.
