Councilman Environment of the City of Lorca, Melchor Morales, has reported that the municipal Limusa Bioenergy has won the Silver in the category of 'other energy facilities' which gives the Technical Association for Waste Management, Urban Toilet and Environment (ATEGRUS), for "contributing to the achievement of a more sustainable and environmentally friendly."

The technical committee has decided to award the prize to Lorca based on the project and degassing of the landfill power generation, which Limusa flag on the premises of the Centre for Waste Management (CGR).
The degassing system and power generation vessels discharge of Waste Management Centre of Lorca allow the installation of 875 kilowatts of electrical power through the conversion of biogas (methane 50%) renewable energy.
This initiative represents an investment of 1.76 billion euros and can extract enough biogas to supply about 2,000 homes when average consumption is converted into electricity.
For Lorca is expected to generate 3,773,900 meters cubic of biogas.

To date, and this is its sixth year, only a dozen city agencies has managed win the award in sustainability: Alicante, Arroyomolinos, Móstoles and the city of Madrid (Madrid), Bilbao, Burgos, Lloret de Mar (Girona) , Seville, Murcia and Vitoria.
In Lorca, is the second award of this nature lies in the region after the city of Murcia in 2008, also in their level of silver.
