Students have planted fruit and vegetables in the Park Pediatrician Diego Pallares, accompanied by the Councillor for Works and Municipal Services, Angel Mecca.
Councilman Parks and Gardens of the City of Lorca, Angel Mecca, participated this morning in the development of a day of knowledge of the natural environment in which they have taken part fifty students of the Colegio San José.
Mecca said that "it is a journey through which we encourage among young people the need to respect nature, to preserve natural areas, and respect for animals and plants. In the case of the urban we teach students the importance of green spaces and gardens as well as the elements that compose them.
Mecca Angel explained that "during the day today we will develop this activity with fifty students of Colegio San José, with whom we will perform a traditional planting different vegetables from our garden. Through this exercise we are committed to engage directly school children with the maintenance of public green spaces. In the case of today, students have planted copies of tomato, strawberries, lettuce, eggplant and cauliflower, among other horticultural products, with the stage one of the most popular parks of our city, the park Pallarés Diego pediatrician. Using fruits and vegetables in the decoration of our green areas also serves to disseminate to students the need for these products as the foundation of our diet. In addition, students learn to firsthand that these foods come from plants, not the fridge or the supermarket, they get to say when asked about the issue. "
The Parks and Gardens Councilman noted that from this Department have been used these elements of the garden as ornamentals, an initiative that has had an excellent reception by Lorca, showing its technical support and highlight the rich contrast is achieved with the introduction of these products as the core of the decoration in gardens and flowerbeds.
Tourists have also shown interest in this regard, since it is very striking this decoration, unusual and very positive.
The commitment of the City of Lorca in this regard has attracted interest from other municipalities, who have followed the line initiated by our Consistory.
