Lorca hosts a day of awareness in which 300 volunteers are sought to participate in a research project funded by the Instituto Carlos III de Madrid.
Councilwoman oenegés Health and the City of Lorca, Antonia Lopez, reported this morning that the city council supports the launch of a groundbreaking study that will analyze the condition of fibromyalgia among the population of the region of Guadalentín.
Moya Lopez explained that this is a project entitled "Study of Fibromyalgia", to be developed by health professionals of the branch of the University Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca of Murcia, which is funded by the National Research Plan Institute of Health Carlos III de Madrid.
For its development is necessary to involve 300 volunteers, namely 150 people that do not have this condition and others which themselves are affected.
The team conducting the study gathers Rheumatology service professionals along with the aforementioned Psychiatric hospital.
The purpose of it, is to determine the pathophysiology of fibromyalgia and discover potential diagnostic markers and therapeutic orientations even open in fibromyalgia, which make a decisive contribution to knowledge, prevention and treatment of this disease.
The mayor of Health has indicated that, according to the data used in this regard, 70% of people affected by fibromyalgia are middle-aged women.
The City Council has worked with the Association Murciana of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia in the call and conduct of an informative journey that is developing along this morning in the CLD.
The purpose of it is to inform the public about the known symptoms of this disease, so that citizens know their characteristics and to avoid the long process until final diagnosis.
In this event, which has participants from the municipalities of Lorca, Eagles, and Puerto Lumbreras Totana, volunteers will be sought to participate in the current study.
The event includes conducting a presentation by Dr. Martínez León (medical researcher) and the President of the Association of Murciana Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia Associations (AFFIRMA), María del Mar Cano.
