The Cabinet today approved an investment of 638,673 euros for emergency works in the Church of the Carmen de Lorca, considered well protected at the Municipal General Management Plan for the city.
As a result of the earthquakes that occurred on May 11, 2011, the church suffered major damage, so it was closed entirely and proceeded to the outside fence, to shore up the central hollow facade and removing the pinnacles and other unstable element or at risk of falling.
A damage from earthquakes have to add those produced by the recent heavy rains that occurred during the month of October, which caused the collapse of part of the north wing of the Cloister of Carmen.
The precarious situation in which the said Church is justified emergency works, and that, should this situation, it would be a serious danger to people passing through its vicinity to the integrity of this well protected.
