The People's Party MEP Ana Aquilino today defended in the full Regional Assembly a motion to seek a declaration of the Art of Embroidery in Lorca as a Cultural with immaterial and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The deputy, who has described the embroidery as "works of art", recalled that the artisan tradition of silk and gold embroidery is proven documented since the sixteenth century, "which proves the extensive history of this tradition for now calling for recognition of Unesco ".
Aquilino said that the application meets the requirements of the global organization "called that has past, present and future", and added that "if the past is documented, its value today is equally indisputable, as evidenced by the beginning of record for its declaration as a Cultural, which is the first step towards international recognition. "
About the future, the deputy has stressed the importance of Lorca Embroidery Museum, as a tool for conservation of this artistic heritage, as well as workshops embroidery and embroidery schools "to ensure the maintenance and growth of tradition in Lorca ".
Aquilino has recognized, also, "the effort, commitment and dedication of the embroiderers of Lorca", architects whose recognition legacy claims the Popular Party and the "enormous consideration that residents of Lorca shows towards which constitutes one of the most interesting heritage of the municipality ", which allowed us to recover from the destruction of the Civil War, and more recently the earthquake May 15, 2011, the embroideries that were preserved in the different venues of the guilds and museums Lorca and maintain Lorca safe heritage throughout the centuries.
