The Director General of the European Union Foreign Affairs, Carmen Sandoval, opened today in Lorca, by the Councillor for Citizen Participation, Ana Maria Lidón, the municipal campaign 'I, European citizen', which takes place today and tomorrow in the town within the framework of the European Year of Citizens 2013.
Sandoval said that this meeting helps bring the EU closer to the citizens and their concerns, while recalling their rights as active European citizenship.
This event begins with a talk entitled "Meet the EU, know your rights", which exposed the European institutions and their policies, the status of EU citizens and the exercise of the fundamental rights of citizens on the map Europe.
This information is supplemented by the screening of the documentary 'We are Europe'.
Also, attendees will gain insight into European policies on food security, network security, environment and climate change, which will be taught by experts from the region.
The youngest also be protagonists of the campaign 'I, European citizen'.
Specifically, students in the Mother of God school and Secondary Schools Prince of Asturias and San Juan Bosco, expand their knowledge on European citizenship and their rights under the Treaty of Maastricht.

Inside, the murals will report on EU-funded projects in municipalities in the region, will screen videos about the EU and will provide information on the Europe Direct network and Europe Direct Office Region of Murcia.
