The Region of Murcia is the third pig farming community of Spain
The Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, and Sepor manager, Patry Bermudez, today presented the 46th edition of the Livestock, Industrial and Agri-Food, Sepor 2013, to be held at the Exhibition Lorca Santa Quiteria fair from 16 to 19 September.
The exhibition will be officially opened on Tuesday by Minister of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Miguel Arias Cañete, as agriculture minister announced in his speech this morning at the presentation ceremony held at the Palacio de Guevara, in Lorca.
Cerda said the work "commendable" organizers and industry to "develop in this forum future strategies to improve their competitiveness."
Livestock stressed that Murcia is "toe" to achieve "optimal results in animal health and food security", allowing said, "export in the best conditions and in the most demanding markets."
The Minister of Agriculture noted that the Region "maintains its pork exports have increased fivefold and the cattle and sheep in the last year", mainly to countries such as Algeria, Lebanon and Libya.
He stressed that in 2012, the Health Protection Groups (ADS), along with the regional administration were more than 700,000 lab tests to monitor the health status of livestock Murcia "and gather all the conditions required for export".

In this regard, said that in 2010 Murcia got harmless status, disease-free with A3 level and this year are taking appropriate controls to achieve the status of officially brucellosis (A4).
He further clarified that "all pig farms are fenced with biosecurity barriers" and explained that "if there should be direct contact infection".
"This is not possible with our intensive breeding," said Cerda, who noted that "Aujeszky's disease is not transmitted through the air, but by contact", so called "prudence" with this type of information can cause damage to the sector.
The Minister of Agriculture said Sepor, which began initially with the pig, "represents all livestock sectors", which in the region reaches more than 5,000 farms, with a turnover of 800 million euros annually and directly employs over 17,000 people.
The regional livestock sector respresent 25 percent of final agricultural production.
He said the pig "pride of place" in Murcia livestock, mainly in the region of Guadalentin, where almost half the farms.
The Region of Murcia is the third pig farming community of Spain with 170,000 sows and four million finishing pigs, and a turnover of over 500 million euros.
Programming Sepor
The fair, which last year received 60,000 visitors, will bring together over 400 exhibitors in the sector in the five pavilions of Santa Quiteria.
Porcinocultura's symposium is the focus of this event where speakers of professional status and national and international university set out the most important issues within the sector.
Pig exposure has this year with the participation of Spanish regions like Catalonia, Galicia and Castilla la Mancha.
In this issue, the Ministry will sponsor a Day in which arise for discussion, development strategies pig short and medium term, to be held on Tuesday, September 17.
