Councilman Environment of the City of Lorca, Melchor Morales, has reported that the city council next week starts the implementation phase of the Community Project "Riverphy", a plan that provides for the removal of heavy metals in the river bed guadalentín through plants.
Morales explained that this is the rehabilitation of the runway using phytoextraction technique, involving the use of plants to absorb metals, which will then be removed and properly used for recovery.
This is achieved by reducing the environmental risks associated with decontaminated areas, reduce erosion rates, and the establishment of vegetation on the bed.
All this will amount to creating a new landscape redesigned for educational and recreational use.
In this regard next week begin the geotechnical study to be carried term in a selected area of ​​the river bed Guadalentin, one of the preliminary activities necessary for the development of the Community Project LIFE +11 RIVERPHY.
The Councillor for the Environment has predicted that the geotechnical study will determine the characteristics of the land and have specific information on the runway, by conducting three surveys on a stretch of 1500 meters Guadalentin River bed, after passing by the town of Lorca.
It is expected that the technical study is done before the end of 2013.
It is recalled that the City of Lorca, works since late 2012 as the beneficiary partner RIVERPHY Community Project LIFE +11 ".
The project, involving the General Division of Environmental Quality Department of the Presidency of the Region of Murcia, beneficiary project coordinator, and the General Department of Environment of the Region of Murcia, La Segura basin, Polytechnic University of Cartagena and Lorca, as associated with it, representing a total investment of 1,714,651 euros, financed with the contribution of the LIFE financial instrument of the European Community.
