The Governing Council has approved a grant of 2,447,933 euros to the Bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena for the restoration of the Collegiate Church of San Patricio Church of Lorca, which has to do with a total budget of 3,818,000 euros.
The Collegiate Church of San Patricio is the most important and interesting temple of Murcia from the construction point of view, after the Cathedral of Murcia, and is included in the Master Plan for Recovery of Cultural Heritage of Lorca.
The grant will be used to repair the extensive damage as a result of the earthquakes in the city in May 2011.
Among them fall five jewels of the upper railing of the tower, broken slabs and vaults of the chapels of the ambulatory, falling forward of the aisle and the outer leaf masonry wall of the same and evolution siding and cornices breaking their facades.
The target date for completion of the works is 2015.
In total, since the earthquake occurred, the Community will invest 2,574,348 euros for the recovery and restoration of the Collegiate Church of San Patricio.
Said Plan for the recovery of cultural heritage of Lorca, the result of coordination between state, regional and local governments, has committed more than 90 percent of the investment required for the completion of works, amounting to some 58 million euros.
The achievement of the targets set in the plan is a milestone and positions the Estate Recovery Lorca ahead of other cities that have suffered monumental disaster of great magnitude.
