The Board of Governors approved a budget for a total amount of 751,870 euros to conduct restoration Huerto Ruano palace and the church of San José, located in Lorca.
Both buildings affected by earthquakes of May 11, 2011, are included in the Master Plan for Recovery of Cultural Heritage of Lorca.
Specifically, the Community, through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, providing a subsidy of 244,373 euros to the City of Lorca for completion of works Huerto Ruano recovery, which consist of repairing cracks in walls, interior partitions , sculptural and decorative elements as well as the relocation of detached parts and restoration of exterior coatings, among others.
El Huerto Ruano is a mansion of eclectic style two-storey square with a central courtyard.
It has two pentagonal towers flanking the main facade and decoration includes floral motifs and a set of gables.
The interior boasts an imperial staircase with brass railings and glass balustrade.
In addition, both the input and the stairwell were decorated with paintings depicting allegories of Arts and the four seasons.
Meanwhile, for the restoration of the church of San José de Lorca the Diocese of Cartagena receive a grant of 507,497 euros.
The temple sustained damage to structural elements, non-structural and decorative, among which ruptured the vault of the central nave and cracks in the arches.
This makes it necessary to undertake a series of actions to repair the serious damage caused by earthquakes and solve construction problems in cornices and walls.
Work will include the elimination of undue spaces attached to the original temple in aisles and rearranging the celebratory space, with the closing of the Gospel transept side and the recovery of the north aisle, including its murals.
Also, a ventilation system of the temple was done through cameras, installation of HVAC, electrical, fire control, public address and security, among others.
The Master Plan for the recovery of cultural heritage of Lorca, the result of coordination between state, regional and local governments, has committed more than 90 percent of the investment required for the completion of works, amounting to some 58 million euros.
