The President of the People's Party and Mayor of Lorca town, Francisco Jodar has highlighted the importance of local authorities as a key element of the European Union.
Jodar, who made these remarks during a sector in Murcia PP Act in which the President of the PP in the Region of Murcia, Ramón Luis Valcárcel and the Secretary General of the European PP, Antonio López-Istúriz have participated, has stressed that "Europe is above all, the Union of Municipalities", so has opted for the creation of new channels of direct communication between the representatives of the cities and the European institutions to help tear down the stereotypes created about distance between municipalities and decision-making bodies of the EU.
President Lorca PP has indicated that strengthening the European Union depends on to get the importance of making this decision to our citizens to be aware that the EU is not something far away, we are Europe, colleges, hospitals, health centers, roads and other infrastructure are European citizens and have them thanks to the EU has opted for our development.
Francisco Jodar discussed the example of the reconstruction of Lorca after the earthquakes of 2011 as a sample of what we can get from Europe and its institutions.
Jódar recalled that in addition to financial funds known (ERDF, EAFRD, URBAN ...), the EU offers multiple avenues for help.
As a concrete example he referred to the work done by the City of Lorca and CARM to gain access to European Solidarity Fund (ESF) to raise funds for the reconstruction of the city after the earthquake.
It was a complex task, since the ESF, in principle, is reserved for cases of national disasters, but thanks to the comprehensive report that refer to them, not only managed to access the Fund, but to get us approved 100% of the amount we requested.
They were EUR 21 million to be distributed among the three administrations (Hall: 6'5, CARM: 9.8 million Status: 4'7).
This was a strong economic boost to pay living expenses and urgent to step from the alarm to the normal.
Lorca allocated funds to 22 operations as important as repairs of roads that remained impassable as a result of earthquakes, costs of services to help displaced municipality to address the situation, the restoration of basic services such as energy, water or telecommunications, among others.
