The general director of Architecture, Housing and Land, Yolanda Muñoz, today presented the neighbors of San Diego Lorca the main priorities of the basic project of urban renewal in the neighborhood, which amounts to 4.9 million euros .

Muñoz, accompanied by the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar said the basic project "urban intervention poses adequate to the reality of the environment, given that it can be a shock revitalizing the neighborhood landscape, generating sustainable economic and social alternatives."

The renovation project of San Diego "includes an intervention that overcomes all technical purposes considered in the contest rules, resolving the problems that arose as a result of earthquakes, as well as prior to earthquakes," Munoz said.

"This is a living project that in addition to the urban transformation involves an economic and social transformation of its residents," stressed the general manager, so it was considered "fundamental" have suggestions and proposals of citizens, and "take note of the contributions they can make to improve this performance."

In his speech, the Director General said that the project aims to "strengthen the unity and image of the neighborhood, where neighbors are the main characters, and they're going to conduct a proper urban renewal."

Lines of action

The works will include the renovation of roads, expansion of public and educational spaces, and the creation of green areas.

Actions will be undertaken in order to promote accessibility, and allow the connection between neighborhoods and promote energy efficiency and sustainability.

The main lines of action of the project are to create a ring road to improve road traffic and increased 74 percent in the number of parking spaces, from the current 204 354 parking spaces to the public road.

Also planned renovation of urban infrastructure such as the sewage water, and new communications infrastructure: the telephone network and the wireless network.

The contract includes, as a special condition of a social nature for the promotion of employment, the requirement that the contractor incorporates, at a minimum, 25 percent of workers under 30 years.
