The reconstruction of the church of Santiago de Lorca gets a mention in the Awards for Quality in Buildings (12/12/2014)

The sixth edition of the Awards for Quality in Construction of the Region of Murcia has given a statement to the reconstruction of the church of Santiago Apostle of Lorca.

These awards that provide the Department of Development, College of Surveyors, the Federation of Employers of the Construction and Caja Murcia Foundation, distinguished quality building stock in our region, driving innovation and sustainability in buildings.

They also seek to recognize the work of the agents of the building and users of the buildings that have remained over time while maintaining the initial characteristics, or those whose qualities have achieved a balance of safety and habitability requirements.

The winners in this fourth edition were: the Gaudí building Lorca, in the category of residential use;

the Town of Mazarrón, in the category of Institutional Use;

Isaac Peral Museum of Cartagena, in the category of tourist use;

Colegio La Milagrosa de Totana in the category of other uses;

and the Apollo Theater in El Algar, in the category of Rehabilitation.

The St. James Church of Lorca has received a mention in the category of Rehabilitation, thanks to the team that was responsible for the rebuilding of the temple, consisting of: the Diocese of Cartagena as a promoter;

the architect of the work, D. Juan de Dios de la Hoz;

the technical architect, Luis de la Hoz;

and construction Lorquimur.

The reason for the concession has been, according to the jury, "with respect to rehabilitate the building and the special attention to the use of traditional building techniques and materials consistent with the date of construction thereof, in an attempt to maximize the approach the building to its original state after a major landslide caused by the earthquakes of May 2011 ".

The St. James Church of Lorca was reopened for worship last September 11, after being closed for forty months due to restoration work performed in the temple for the damage that earthquakes of May 11, 2011 caused in structure and interior.
