The Minister of Education, Culture and Universities, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, visited this morning, accompanied by Council of Education and Culture of Lorca, Francisco Montiel and Sandra Martinez, the Museum of Bethlehem city, which opened in mid- month in newly restored chapel of San Roque and houses an exhibition of 16 municipal cribs made by artisans of the region, in which 14 university collaborate in performance.
During the visit, which was also attended by President of the Association Belenista Lorca, Miguel Angel Navarrete, Pedro Antonio Sánchez highlighted the dynamic role of this new museum for the city and, in particular, to the San Roque, and the result of the collaboration with universities for operation and dissemination.
"The Belenista Association has done a great job, getting retrieve and provide a Christian temple of the city's oldest artistic quality content. The nativity scenes organized by this association have come to attract up to 30,000 visitors a year, so we are convinced that this new facility will exceed that figure and help recover the economy and employment of Lorca and the San Roque. Also noteworthy volunteer work and collaboration are doing 14 university in this initiative and contributing to complete their training, "said Minister of Education, Culture and Universities.
The 14 university volunteers who, under an agreement between the Belenista Association of Lorca and universities, are five cultural volunteers from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena;
a student of Tourism of the Catholic University San Antonio;
a student graduate of Tourism and seven cultural volunteers from the University of Murcia.
The Museum of Bethlehem in Lorca houses an exhibition where the best municipal cribs made in the last 16 years by the Association of Belen de Lorca is.
Among births can be seen in the chapel, the XV century and has just been restored following damage sustained in the earthquake of 2011, include a recreation of Bethlehem, a diorama of the city of Petra or Bethlehem Bible 4x6 meters.
The Belenista Lorca Association was created in 1998 to promote and disseminate the belenismo, for performing many parallel exhibitions such as courses, workshops, publications or contests activities.
In addition, every year conducts guided tours for school children in the region of Lorca visits.
