The initiative launched by the Department of Health has the support of the local police and animal welfare groups
The Councillor for Health of the City of Lorca, Antonia Lopez, has reported the great success it is having on the city's "Awareness Campaign on Responsible Pet Ownership".
With it have been solved during the last year, producing considerable distress situations between neighbors because of their dangerousness, barking, proliferation or disrepair.
Moya Lopez explained that this initiative is jointly by the Department of Health and the local police.
In addition to inform owners of animals outputs pairs of agents are also performed with a municipal veterinarian every Tuesday and Thursday for different areas of the city and districts.
According to data from the last year, over 2014 have been identified by microchip 1,039 animals, a figure that has increased by 176 compared to 2013. Withdrawals also decreased by 9% to a total of 762 73 less than in the previous year, achieving the best figure in the last five years.
The number of adoptions has achieved during the same period 133.
Antonia Lopez has also referred to the dogs potentially dangerous breeds, than we counted 329, corresponding to 3.08% of the total census, American Staffordshide Terrier being the largest race.
In 2014 were granted 26 licenses for possession of these animals and have registered 37 new.
The council has tried to transmit a message to those citizens who break the rules of identification or rabies vaccination for your animal.
In this regard it is anticipated that a period be granted to remedy the deficiencies committed, and if not beyond the period disciplinary proceedings will be initiated.
In this regard, in 2014 were processed 29 of these people that violated those rules.
Moreover, Antonia Lopez explained that was offered to all primary schools in a workshop on animal welfare and awareness entitled "You and animals" which will involve the collaboration of the dealership collection of animals.
The first workshop will be held soon in the school of La Campana, and from the Department encourage any association or group to conduct the workshop.
In line with the above, the mayor also said that veterinarians with the help of external chair of Animal Welfare at the University of Cádiz and the College of Veterinarians of Murcia taught a workshop called "Pets and their Wellness: for them and for us "to students in 5th and 6th grade.
Moya Lopez recalled the importance of these performances with the work done by the two animal shelters Lorca "Lorca Animal Rescue" and "Faunasol" for the benefit of all citizens and their pets.
Thanks to these initiatives has increased the number of animals identified and there have been fewer dropouts.
