The center will be dedicated to sports elite to the specific preparation of Olympic and world competitions
The presidential advisor and Employment, José Gabriel Ruiz, mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, and the president of the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation, Agustín Martín, today inaugurated the Center for Sports Modernization Beach Volleyball Lorca, which will become world reference for this Olympic discipline.
José Gabriel Ruiz recalled that "the Autonomous Community has been working to boost the city of Lorca as a pole of attraction and economic revitalization in sport".
With the commissioning of the sports center located in La Torrecilla, which will be used exclusively to elite sport specific preparation of Olympic and world competitions, is expected to attract 50,000 people annually.
Besides being essential to the promotion of sport, the Minister said that "is known economic dynamism that occurs in enclaves like this, with over 50,000 square meters, including about 10,000 Modernization Center," said the counselor, adding "there is currently no center of its kind in Europe."
The facilities include four tennis outdoor beach volleyball (one with a large grandstand), the first phase of the internal residence for up to one hundred sports, fitness and recreation areas.
Regional investment in this complex reach 500,000 euros, and, as stated by the counselor, "will be profited by going to host competitions, since that will be used by the Federation as the permanent headquarters of concentration of their national teams."
