The Councillor for Culture of the City of Lorca, Sandra Martinez, this morning to social agents of the city the Quality Plan of Urban Landscape of Lorca, organized by the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain in collaboration with the city of Lorca.
It is a tool that is intended to establish the general and special conditions for the comprehensive knowledge, management and protection of the cultural landscape of the city of Lorca.
This project has its origin in the Master Plan for the Recovery of Cultural Heritage of Lorca and consisted of two phases developed during the past eight months.
Sandra Martinez explained that the first was the analysis phase.
Given the importance of the issue, the Consistory had clear that it was necessary to open a public participation process to Lorca and Lorca had a chance to review their city and contribute their experience and approaches.
Middle hundred residents participated done during the month of October in the conference convened by the Social Council of the City, providing interesting tenets of this strategy, since they have been valued by experts in developing the Plan.

The mayor of Culture recalled that Lorca has an extensive geographical territory as well as a unique and spectacular old town, declared a historic-artistic set in 1964. The local landscape is dominated by the sight of the Castle of Lorca on top, guarding the city;
also by the towers and steeples of secular and beautiful churches, like St. Patrick;
by historic buildings, mansions and palaces.
But are also important green spaces, squares, gardens which make a lung to Lorca.
Martinez stressed that to preserve, nurture and develop all these landscape features is what this plan is born Quality Urban Landscape that, broadly speaking, raises a number of proposals through six strategies covering various areas.
The Councillor for Culture explained that this Plan is intended, first, the protection, conservation and restoration of heritage, classifying certain architectural and botanical elements.
Second, the revival of the historic center, a non-extendable target for Lorca and is a top priority.
This strategy includes the recovery of traditional business, traditional elements or log reviving abandoned spaces and deterioriorados.
But also included in this section are recommendations for the renewal of PEPRI, critical to the recovery of the historic center and in which we are currently immersed question.
A third section includes enhancing green spaces, down to the city to be solved betting on the creation of new parks and natural areas.
Sandra Martinez explained that the Plan also emphasizes something we have already launched taking advantage of urban regeneration investments carried out in recent years;

Finally, the Plan develops strategies for promoting a network of friendly communication and reconfigure the entrances to the city.
The mayor wanted to thank all the people who have made this valuable Plan destined to become a useful tool in cultural and urban planning Lorca, as well as an element of improving the attractiveness of the municipality.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Institute of Cultural Heritage of Spain once again demonstrated its strong commitment to Lorca, but mainly to the recovery of the municipality in the same terms in which we believe the residents of this municipality.
