The Councillor for Health of the City of Lorca, Mari Carmen Ruiz, has reported that in the 80 ornamental fountains in the city and districts are performing, risk-based controls to ensure good sanitary conditions, paying special attention to avoid the appearance of bacteria, as can be the case of Legionella.
It also examines other parameters, such as free chlorine, temperature and pH.
It should be emphasized that throughout the year, they are carrying out cleaning and disinfection quarterly or yearly, based on the schedule established by the technicians, in addition to proceeding to the analysis laboratory.
Mari Carmen Ruiz explained that sampling for the control of Legionella have been conducted between late June and early July in the sources of medium and high risk.
To continue prevention, the city of Lorca also held throughout the coming weeks, a second sampling in ornamental fountains that require further attention.
The analysis of this water for bacteria occur during the summer months as it is the most favorable time for the growth of the bacteria.
The mayor of Health has indicated that the ornamental fountains with which the city and the municipality are classified according to the criterion of technical, low, medium and high attention, performing at each specific work.
The sources that require more attention cleaning or disinfection quarter ago, a review each month and two annual sampling, monitoring free chlorine, temperature and pH daily.

Ruiz explained that among the sources called high attention of the municipality are located at Plaza Colón, Oval Santa Paula and in the rotunda of San Antonio neighborhood.
Among the regular attention include the source Park San Jose, La Penica, located at the crossing La Hoya and three sources in the neighborhood of Los Angeles.
