The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, presided yesterday afternoon in the first meeting of the Working Committee created for the reception of Syrian refugees in the city.

This Commission is made up of the councilors of Social Services, Fátima Mínguez, and Citizen Participation, Maria del Carmen Ruiz, as well as representatives of Red Cross, Caritas, Murcia Welcomes and track, local political groups, and technical specialists the departments of Social Services and Citizen Participation.

Lorca Mayor explained that this Working Committee was created in order to channel and manage the reception and integration of citizens of that country that will host this county.

It is a matter to be treated with caution, since we still do not know how many people will come, whether they are families, older or more children.

Jodar noted that since the Working Committee have already started working from a caring and committed attitude.

Lorca is willing to help in any way necessary to make the city an opportunity, home and future site for these families fleeing war.

If someone has learned that in the most difficult situations we must show solidarity, we are Lorca, and we will prove.

Therefore, we must lead by example and we have been recipients of this solidarity when we have gone wrong, there are now people in the world who are suffering and we must help them.
