The Cabinet has approved a proposal of the Ministry of Culture and Spokesperson, a grant of 165,239 euros to the city of Lorca for the drafting and implementation of the reclamation works of the Old City Municipal Archives.
This project is part of the Master Plan for the Recovery of Cultural Heritage of Lorca, which establishes coordination and joint actions for the full recovery of the Historical-Artistic Sun City after the earthquake of May 11, 2011.
The actions envisaged are to enhance and repair the cracks in wood and stone structure, check the tightness of the cover, humidity troubleshoot the monument, as well as performances coating, tiling and paving.
This building dates from the sixteenth century and was originally built to house a new butcher shops and a warehouse to store flour and wheat.
It was designed by master architect Jerónimo Quijano, who established archery simple solution that allowed the maximum open space.
The exterior is of stone masonry and sober, and it highlights three shields of Charles V and the old Lorca Council.
The building, which has undergone several restorations and improvements over the years, hosted the Municipal Archives until its transfer to the new premises.
