Agriculture Councilman City of Lorca, Angel Mecca Ruzafa, has reported that the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of Spain has extended the deadline of the call for aid to farms with almond plantations affected by drought, the agency convened by the March 5 until the end of December this year, which has been extended three more months.
Angel Meca has indicated that the 2013/2014 agricultural campaign was characterized, from a meteorological point of view, by the succession of a series of setbacks, if not well have had a widespread reach throughout Spain, they have indeed caused serious damage farms located in areas where adversity is manifested with greater intensity, as in the case of the Region of Murcia.
The mayor of Agriculture has indicated that rainfall collected from the months of September 2013 to May 2014 in certain areas of Spain have been so few that have caused a marked drought.
The consequence of this lack of rainfall has led to a sharp decline in crop damage and almond plantations that, in extreme cases, have killed the tree.
Ruzafa Mecca has explained that for this reason, the Ministry of Agriculture has called these aid to compensate farmers for damage caused in almond plantations as a result of the drought of 2014 and the need for its consequences take effect immediately in order to alleviate the effects of these adversities.
