The Councillor for the Environment in the City of Lorca, Satur Martinez reported that the + Riverphy Life Project has already begun with the work obey their main objective: the decontamination of a stretch of the river Guadalentín by phytoextraction measures or techniques.
Specifically few weeks ago the cleanup of the riverbed and mowing vegetation began, to enable plants to generate new tissues that accumulate higher concentrations of heavy metals.
This month will be planted in areas without vegetation native species, indicated technically and scientifically for removing heavy metals from the bed of the river Guadalentín, some plants that are interspersed with the current vegetation.
With both measures is expected to extract the maximum amount of heavy metals in the soil during the period 2015-2017.
Satur Martinez explained that this performance reflects the first installment to rehabilitate the runway, with a length of 500 meters, reaching up to urban center of the Garden of the Wheel or "Cuesta de Ferrer" followed by plantations planned for autumn 2016 in the following two sections selected in the Riverphy project (section 1 and section 2), the end of the period 2017 to reap all existing vegetation and implemented.

The Life + project financed with the contribution of the LIFE financial instrument of the European Community is led by the Directorate General for the Environment, and with the collaboration of the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura, the Polytechnic University of Cartagena and Lorca, assuming a total investment of 1,714,651 euros.
The City Council encourage people to learn about the project, thanks to the explanatory talks to be held this fall, and is also framed within the Local Agenda 21 of Lorca.
