The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, the director of Caritas Interparroquial of Lorca, Lazaro Caballero and Professor of Geography at the University of Murcia, Francisco Calvo, intervene with the authors of the publication in the ceremony to be held on Wednesday at 20:00 pm in the Cultural Center of the City.
The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, the director of Caritas Interparroquial of Lorca, Lazaro Caballero and Professor of Geography at the University of Murcia, Francisco Calvo, will participate on Wednesday January 13 at 20:00 at the Cultural Center City, in the presentation of the book 'The Riada St. Wenceslas in Lorca and Puerto Lumbreras' Joaquin Franco and Juan David Romera Sanchez Romera.
This publication, which goes on sale in bookstores Interparroquial Lorca to benefit Caritas Lorca, is a study of geographical, which analyzes ated flood that took place in these two municipalities the September 28, 2012 and left behind it seven victims, hundreds of victims and huge financial and material losses.
The authors, Romera Franco, who is a PhD in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Murcia, and Sanchez Romera, Academician of the Real de Alfonso X the Wise and official chronicler of Puerto Lumbreras, exhibited during the ceremony that the book is structured in three blocks and aims with a simple and didactic language that the reader knows the elements, factors and mechanisms that periodically trigger floods in the region.
The first block of having prior knowledge of the region of Lorca and Puerto Lumbreras from the geographical point of view to understand how the space responds to high-intensity rainfall;
a review of other historical flood is made and how it has tried to defend man against such adversity by generating large infrastructures.
After a general discussion, the second chapter focuses on the Riada St. Wenceslas, its genesis and development, its unfortunate consequences and recovery efforts undertaken in the months after the disaster.
As a corollary, the third block is composed of a series of 50 selected images from the flood of St. Wenceslas both Lorca and Puerto Lumbreras.
