Gonzalez will be the sole representative of the Region of Murcia and has among its aims "to end one of the longest and most severe test of the world, Paris-Dakar called runners, seeing the possibilities of improvement, personal sacrifice when participate in a sporting challenge at this level, after taking part in ultra-endurance tests and help with my presence to the development of the area, since part of the money collected in registration is meant for humanitarian projects. Participants will travel a total of 242 kilometers, divided into 6 stages, having to subsist on food self-sufficiency, ie, carrying a backpack, with all the food and equipment needed for the seven days of the test, since the organization only provide water.
A total of 850 athletes from 40 countries took part in the Marathon des Sables, where the presence of 72 Spanish (68 men and 4 women), Spain being one of the nation with more representation along with Brazil, Colombia, Great Britain, Italy, Mexico, Portugal, Morocco, United States, Germany, Korea, France and Japan.
