The Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Transport, through the Directorate General for Transport and Highways, held during the month of July various improvement and refurbishment works on the C-21, which connects with Lorca Aledo.
The works, with a budget of EUR 56,198.68, affect the stretch between mile markers 9 and 12, in the municipality of Lorca, which is damaged by the increased traffic of heavy vehicles.
Specifically, the track has a daily average of 1,038 vehicles.
The works consist of the sanitizing of 16 tunnels in the section above, totaling about 1,700 square meters as a whole, on which excavated to a depth of 50 cm, with an extended and compacted stone 20 inches thick and artificial gravel in the remaining 30 cm.
Subsequently, 475 meters will be paved ditch to facilitate drainage of the road, protect the firm and thus improve the safety of users of this road, and to facilitate road transport.
The deadline for execution of works is two months and is expected to begin during this month.
According to Carmen Sandoval, Director General for Transport and Highways, this action is part of the annual program of the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport for road maintenance and improvement of road safety.
This program has a budget of over EUR 28 million for actions related to maintenance, rehabilitation, replacement and improvement of structural and functional conditions of the roads and to ensure viability under adverse conditions.
