Press release UPyD Guadalentín:

On Wednesday October 1 Guadalentín the Committee held a meeting with the Community of Irrigators of Lorca.

This meeting is part of the project that the committee has proposed to undertake in the coming months as we consider vital to know firsthand the reality of our town and the starting point are the associations and citizens.

This meeting is also very important for us as our President Miguel Baños and the Committee is in charge of a project on water problems in the region which in turn will be sent to Madrid for further study and analysis.

We are also aware that the resources of the Guadalentín are practically nil so we depend on for survival outside of agriculture, a very important sector in our region and region.

The meeting was attended by the Community of Irrigators its President Manuel Soler, Governing Board and Staff of the Community to be more than a dozen people the present, UPyD attended by a total of six members representing Lorca, Aledo , and Puerto Lumbreras Totana.

The meeting discussed various issues, first by UPyD explain our program, especially in areas of water where our party advocates primarily to recover the competence of all watersheds for the state and so they can make decisions based on needs real, not partisan interests.

Community Irrigation also explained to us as more water resources are more depleted in the region, presenting the high salinity wells which decreases crop productivity by up to 40%.

Moreover, the water from desalination plants is almost twice as expensive than the current water and therefore profitability would decline considerably.

Finally we have stated that the Community of Irrigators the only current solution goes through that bring water from other regions and that in itself desalination water is not suitable for agricultural use but needs to be mixed with river water or well to be used, because the water desalination plant lacks the minerals needed for growth of any tree or plant.

From the Election Committee Guadalentín want to thank the community of irrigators paid interest and assure you that we have taken note of the current problems and needs.
