The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, inaugurated this morning the IX Youth Participation Fair 'Youth Zone 2008', to be held in the Plaza de Toros de Lorca and around until next Sunday.
For three days the 140 member associations held more than 300 cultural activities and leisure.
The opening ceremony was also attended by the director of the Institute for Youth, Veronica Lopez, mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar, and the councilman of Youth, Joaquin Ruiz.
'Youth Zone' has become "a meeting point and a benchmark for organizations and youth organizations can exchange experiences and initiatives which are made known to the young population of the region the associative movement," said Minister of Culture and Tourism.
In this sense, Cruz said that the fair "is an example of that youth is participatory, active and committed, as is shown in more than one hundred associations attending this meeting."

New in this edition has been installed within the grounds of the arena, a setting where each night will play various musical groups.
Another novelty is the use of new technologies to inform visitors of the activities to be held in the grounds of 'Youth Zone'.
Thus, through text messages to mobile phones via bluetooth, the audience of the show will receive information about events taking place.
Since 2006, this meeting comes as travelers from different municipalities in the region with the aim of reaching a larger number of young people.
So far it has developed in Cartagena in 2006 and Molina de Segura in 2007.
This year is expected to visit campus Lorca 40 secondary schools in the region and is expected to attend over 35,000 people.
Youth Participation Fair is organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism through the Institute for Youth, in collaboration with the Municipal Institute of City of Lorca Youth, the Youth Council of the Region of Murcia, the Council of the Youth Lorca and CAM.
Youth Zone 2008 has a budget of around 180,000 euros, of which the Youth Institute provides 100,000, the CAM provides the city of 54,000 and 26,000 euros Lorca.
