The councilman of Social Services City of Lorca, Lali Ibarra, this morning the project for the new Multipurpose Center for Social Action of the District of Los Angeles, who becomes the first point of decentralized social intervention of the municipality.
Ibarra explained that the aim of bringing the population living in the neighborhood social resources and specific local community has been launched in this infrastructure and offices of the Social Work Unit of Los Angeles, specialized care to immigrant reception social demands and paperwork on all matters relating to family reunification, social services, as well as activities of promotion and training activities.
This new service includes a store of food and staple items Interparroquial Caritas, for people at high risk of social exclusion, while also allowing the provision of premises for the development and performance of activities of associations working in the area and local did not have to carry out their activities and the development of projects and activities of NGOs and associations in the area.
The Councillor for Social Affairs added that "among the specific objectives we have set are included to sensitize residents of the neighborhoods of the town of Lorca to eliminate prejudices and stereotypes that hinder coexistence, facilitate learning of the basics for living (language, culture, rights and duties), promoting access to community resources normalized by knowing them, avoiding protectionist attitudes, and promote the partnership and create a space of exchange for gaining knowledge and approach to cultural diversity present in the municipality. "
To achieve the objectives, the proposed project activities and civic education workshops and retreats, administrative bodies of the municipality of Lorca, health and hygiene, the education and upbringing of children, as well as participation in neighborhood associations.
Lali Ibarra has asserted that "in order to increase the attention of the Municipal Social Services and in particular for greater decentralization of services and professional approach of the Municipal Council of Social Services in neighborhoods and districts, we began a process of expansion now embodied in the slum area of San Cristobal and Los Angeles with the launch of the creation of a Multipurpose Social Action Center for that area. "
The neighborhoods have been characterized for hosting a short time a large population and a large number of people from other countries and currently has immigrant population that is 48% of the total population resident in that neighborhood, feature , added to the difficulties of care existing in the Municipality of Lorca by extension, justifies the new location of a branch of the Municipal Centre of Social Services Lorca.
For this reason and due to the rising need for social care to people who are at risk of social exclusion is considered necessary the decentralization of resources in the municipality to reach higher levels of efficiency, by proposing the creation a multipurpose social action center where you can develop all kinds of promotional activities and social intervention.
The installation of this place is framed in the context of the Collaboration Agreement signed between the Autonomous Community of Murcia, through the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, and the city of Lorca, through the Municipal Council of Social Services the year 2008, for the development of actions for the reception and integration of immigrants and the educational effort.
The amount that the City Council has to implement the project is € 909,831.71, being funded by the Autonomous Community of Murcia, the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and the Municipality of Lorca, with the amount subsidized by the latter of € 136,474.76.
