The Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar has signed a collaboration agreement with the association "Aid to Children of Bolivia" to build a shelter for abandoned children's home in the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra.
The mayor pointed out that this is a new step in the aid from the municipal councils are given to promote development cooperation.
Jódar stressed that the municipal contribution will be 6,000 euros which will serve for the construction of the said lodge, and for the acquisition of equipment necessary for its operation to host abandoned children.
Jódar Francisco explained that the new building is intended to host boys and girls between 6 and 22 years living on the street, total illiterate and have abandoned their homes for various reasons: parental neglect, abuse, dysfunctional family.
The Mayor has indicated that the Welcome Centre is located in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, particularly in one of the most deprived districts of the city, where 60% of the population lives in poverty and 40% in poverty .
The main objective which this agreement is to host and shelter to children and young people in the street, they generate enough motivation to go home and rehabilitation training specialist, analyze the specific reasons for the situation to remain in the street in every one of them, inform them of physical and psychological damage that staying in the street carries them, as well as damages for the regular consumption of alcohol and drugs and provide medical care.
The host project envisages the construction of a youth hostel and a cultural day.
The economic contribution of the Municipality of Lorca is 6,000 euros, which will go to help build the Center for Youth Hostel.
The support provided by the city council this year will amount to 6,000 euros already spent in 2007, and also went to the financing of the hostel, as well as programs being developed by this association for children in Bolivia.
