Francisco Ros technology exhibition opens 'Movement Advances' in Lorca (23/03/2009)

• Movement Advances Unveils developments Avanza2 Plan (2009-2012) makes available to the public to promote the implementation and use of Information Technology and Communication (ICT), through participatory activities.

• The Plan Avanza mobilized nearly 154 million euros to promote the Information Society in the region of Murcia during the period 2006-2008.

In particular, Lorca has received aid worth 3.95 million for improvements in education, health, network management, as well as specific projects such as Lorca and Lorca Singular City Planning Portal.

• Currently, 49% of Murcia regularly use Internet, 95% of businesses and 91% of households are connected to the network via broadband and over 47% of households have access to DTT.

Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Information Society Francisco Ros, today opened the exhibition Lorca 'Movement Advances, an initiative of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade will inform the public about the benefits and uses Technologies of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as well as novelty in Avanza2 Plan.

The opening of the exhibition, which opened in Toledo last month, has also had the presence of the Mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jódar Alonso, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Inmaculada García Martínez, Director General for Information Society and Telecommunications and Pedro Garcia Diego Garcia.

The main objective of Movement Advances ( www.movimientoavanza.es ), which will visit 20 Spanish cities during 2009 and 2010, is to announce the Information Technology and Communication (ICT) to citizens, bringing them to your location.

Visitors can learn about all the initiatives launched by the Avanza2 Plan (2009-2012) and how ICT can help in their daily lives.

During the show, attendees can check the results achieved in the first phase of the Avanza Plan (2005-2008) and learn to handle all the tools at their disposal, through workshops, lectures and games that will show the uses and perks of being players in the Information Society.

Currently, more than 24 million people are connected to the Internet in Spain, 97% of them via broadband.

Avanza2 Plan is part of Plan E ( www.plane.gob.es ) program, which sets out the measures taken by the Government to sustain economic activity and lay the foundations for sustainable growth in the future.

The exhibition will be open in Lorca until March 27

'Movement Advances' is located in a tent located in the Alameda of the Constitution and occupies an area of 400 m².

The shows will be available to the public from today until March 27 with an uninterrupted schedule of 10 am to 8 pm.

To help visitors in their journey through the sample, MOVAV has created a virtual pet which explains in simple and fun what are the advantages and uses of new technologies in each of the thematic areas of the site, which correspond to the main lines of action of Plan Avanza2.

The exhibition, completely free of charge, consists of four thematic areas.

First Citizen Training Area, which will show participants the uses and benefits of ICTs to ensure the inclusion and retention of citizens in the Information Society.

This area focuses particularly on those groups most at risk of exclusion, such as elderly, disabled and women.

On the other hand, in the area of training to businesses

train employers on how to improve competitiveness and productivity of SMEs through the incorporation of Information Technology and Communication in business.

SMEs currently have 100,000 new ICT equipment through loans at 0% granted by the Ministry of Industry.

Also you can visit the area of Content and Digital Public Services, which will inform visitors about the implementation and management of new electronic services available in government.

Finally,

help citizens in the transition to digital terrestrial television and inform them of the benefits the new system.

Currently, DTT coverage reaches the 92.38% of the population, exceeding the European average.

Already sold more than 17 million receivers in Spain.

Street activities

Also, from Saturday 21 March, Advance Movement has developed participatory activities in the Plaza Calderon de la Barca.

In them, Murcia offers all information about the various benefits of the Information Society ICT to their city.

Among the various activities on the street, include "Bend DTT" with information about channels, programming and history of digital terrestrial television and a set of dub, "The faces of your city", that brings citizens the benefits and uses digital photography, "Get fit with the Avanza Plan", a play area with Wiifit, which also provide information on Advance loans that allow citizens to acquire technological equipment, or "Your network city" dedicated to reporting on the administration utilities found on the pages with useful information about the city, like the billboard, calendar, street, etc.

In addition to comprehensive information about the programs, the website will feature sections now, cities that will travel, activities and workshops are there in the exhibition, as well as images that visitors can hang up in the video blog and photoblog.

The Avanza Plan in Murcia

With a total budget of 1,500 million euros for 2009, Avanza2 Plan (2009-2012) faces the challenge of ensuring that infrastructure and access to Information Technology and Communication (ICT), provide increasing benefits citizens.

Avanza2 Plan also seeks to contribute to our country's economic recovery thanks to intensive and widespread use of ICT, promoting business development in key sectors such as the Future Internet and digital content.

The first phase of the Plan Avanza has mobilized nearly 154 million euros for development of Information Society in Murcia in 2006-2008.

During this period, 6,730 households and 2,094 SMEs have benefited from loans Avanza at 0% interest.

On the other hand, 593 schools and 125 health centers in the region have more and better computer equipment and 96 telecenters have been installed.

In addition, 34 magistrates and 11 civil registries are in the process of digitization, 9 with the registration books digitized.

In 2003, Murcia community had 325,816 Internet users, which represented 32% of the population.

Today, that figure had risen to 520,578 and 49% of Murcia enjoy access to the Web The number of Internet-connected companies in Murcia has risen 37 percentage points and now, 85% connect via broadband.

The penetration of this technology in homes has grown and there are 20 points more than 187,000 homes connected, 42% of the total.

The connection speed has gone from 256 Kbps to 3 Mbps, achieving lower prices by 25%.

Finally, over 47% of households in Murcia have access to DTT.

The Avanza Plan in Lorca

The Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Information Society, under the Plan Avanza, has spent a total of 3.95 million euros for the development of Information Society in Lorca, through actions undertaken in the field of education and health, among others, as well as specific projects such as Lorca and Lorca Singular City Planning Portal.

In particular, Lorca 569 have been granted loans amounting Avanza 1.92 million euros, of which 1.42 was allocated to support for SMEs and the rest to the public.

Collaborators

To realize this project, besides the initiative of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade, the collaboration of the Autonomous Community of Murcia and the town of Lorca, also has received support from the private sector.

Solutions Partners are Airis, Banesto, Disney Channel, Intel, Nintendo, ONO, Public, Samsung, Telefonica, Union Fenosa.

Advance Movement also has the special collaboration of the National Reference Center for the Application of Information Technology and Communication (CENATIC).

It is the only strategy of the Government of Spain concerning Free Software and its mission is to promote knowledge and use of open source software, working hard with government, universities, educational community and developers, groups I + D + i and general users of these technologies.

The Movement Advances CENATIC participate in a stand of their own design and conduct dynamic activities that add value to the exhibition.
