The Director General of Natural Heritage, Pablo Fernández, and Alderman of Environment of the City of Lorca, Melchor Morales, this morning visited the town to oversee lorquino field two of the actions planned by his department in the town of Lorca.
The first one is located on the slopes of the Castle of Lorca and the second was expected to run at Mount La Culebrina.
Both actions will involve a total investment budget of 2009, of 220,000 euros.
The works consist of the hydrological-forestry on the slopes of the Castle of Lorca, with an investment of 50,000 euros, and the adequacy of infrastructure environment for public use in forest environmental routes of public interest in the La Culebrina, with a budget of 170,000 euros.
The projects being developed on the slopes of the Castle of Lorca focus on getting the problems corrected charged steep erosion in certain areas, mainly in the south side due to lack of vegetation there.
The main objective of the project has hydrological correction forest on the slopes of Castle trying to achieve erosion control and regulation of water regime of the protected area of the episodes with high intensity rainfall.
The above actions can be classified in two ways: first mechanic (Hidrotecnia) and on the other hand, the biological (afforestation, mainly).
In summary detailing the various works to be executed:
9 barricades (8 of them of gabions and 1 drywall);
32 gabion low walls of variable size
repair and replacement of 10 damaged gabion walls;
2 dissipating energy by gully erosion in drainage ditches;
reforestation with native species in degraded areas;
consolidation of unstable slopes (500 m 2) with dry-stone laying;
planting of about 1,000 plants on the slopes stabilized, and finally
cleaning of waste and garbage that accumulate in specific areas of the slopes.
The project scheduled for implementation in the area is essentially the Culebrina adapt existing trails and create new itineraries in municipal forests (MUP) in the area of La Culebrina (surroundings of the Sierra del Gigante), plus related infrastructure adapt an old nursery from which the plant was to repopulate those mountains.
This is an area with an enabling environment for educational visits or related to leisure in the natural environment.
The main actions to be performed include:
construction and refurbishment of terraced walls for later planting with native species of interest;
recovery and restoration of disused trails and creating new sections of trail;
cleaning and improving recreational areas located in the field of action;
construction of viewpoints;
creation of endowed environmental pathways and interpretive signage information of high environmental values of flora and fauna in the area (LIC, SPA and Monte Public Utility), and
other improvements as spring recovery, security measures in the itineraries, unique tree pruning, protection and improvement of access infrastructure.
