Will adapt the paths and create new environmental routes of public forests in the environment of the Sierra del Gigante
The Ministry of Agriculture and Water, through the General Directorate of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity, will invest 220,000 euros in the town of Lorca for hydrological-forestry on the slopes of the castle and the adequacy of environmental pathways and enhancement of infrastructure the natural environment for public use in the La Culebrina.
The general director Pablo Fernandez and Environment Councilman of the City of Lorca, Melchor Morales, monitored the land today in this town where the proceedings take place.
Fernandez explained that the slopes of the castle "is intended to correct the effects of erosion in certain hilly areas to the south, encouraged by the scarcity of vegetation, and to regulate the water regime of the same to protect them from rainfall events of high intensity" .
The works include construction of walls and low walls, reforestation with native species in degraded areas, and cleaning of waste and debris that accumulate in specific areas of the slopes.
Also, the director general said that in the Culebrina "fit the trails and create new itineraries in the mountains of public interest in the environment of the Sierra del Gigante."
Also be restored infrastructure connected with the old nursery, which served in its day to restock these mountains, "as it is an environment conducive to organizing educational visits and recreational activities in the natural environment."
The main actions to be performed include the creation of environmental pathways, equipped with information and interpretive signage for the high environmental values of the flora and fauna in this area is classified as a Site of Community Importance (SCI), Special Area Protection Areas (SPA) and Public Utility Monte, adaptation of recreational areas, construction of viewpoints, improving access, recovery wells, the unique tree pruning and planting of native species of interest .
