The secretary general of the Socialist Lorca, Diego Ferrer, has called on the PP mayor, Francisco Jodar, the convening of an extraordinary plenary meeting to approve sending urgent application for a declaration of disaster area in rainfed districts of high Lorca gravely affected by the hail.
Among other consequences, the storm has caused the loss of one hundred percent of the cultivation of grapes and almonds in the councils of La Paca, Coy, Doña Inés and Avilés.
In addition, Ferra has asked the Ministry of Agriculture of the regional government to analyze the extent of damage "as quickly" as well as to establish a special support package for the victims.
In this regard, he called for aid to be extended to property owners affected by the violence of hail and floods.
He noted that in many cases, these elderly residents, pensioners, which would be very difficult to undertake the necessary arrangements without the support of the Administration.
Ferra also demanded that, beyond the distribution of plant protection products to farmers, the Ministry of Agriculture proceed, urgently, to aerial spraying of the affected area in Lorca to prevent the development of fungal diseases in crops, as is expected to be dispatched in Cieza.
The leader of the Socialists Lorca, who has visited the affected area showed particular concern about the situation in the remaining small farmers who, because of the crisis, had failed to ensure their production this year.
He recalled that for the vast majority their farms are "the only way" to make a living, so have requested a special feeling with them.
For those who do agricultural insurance signed, Ferra asked the agencies to act with "speed and agility."
