The Town Planning of the City of Lorca, Francisco Garcia, has reported that work on the Plaza of Spain will include a major improvement as the correction of the existing gap.
Garcia noted that this square has historically with a slope of 5.5% which translates into five feet drop from the popular "carrerón" of the Church of San Patricio junction with James Street.
The architect responsible for the works at the Plaza of Spain, Gonzalo Fernandez-Ilundain, has been noted that the City Council which has moved the existing concerns of many citizens about the need to correct the slope in question.
That is why we went to work to find the best possible solution.
Finally we decided on the location of three steps of 16 cm that is enabled on the link to the plaza to the Santiago Street and comply with all existing accessibility standards.
This improvement in the project to correct the tendency to only half of the current.
The architect himself has clarified that it is not the same solution that was given to the slope of the square decades ago, when the square had two starters in its lower corners and a platform on which stood the square.
In this case we have opted for a more appropriate solution that respects the environment in which it is located.
The improvement project of the square, therefore, is betting that the square itself is not the protagonist, but the true role it should have its surroundings.
Calle Cava pedestrianize
The mayor of Planning has stated that this project will set a walkable plaza of Spain for pedestrians, better lit and more practical for the event, since the elimination of the slope will determine a base level.
The project involves the conversion of Cava in the pedestrian street, so that only the neighbors of the Fords existing users and emergency vehicles, can access it.
To do this is to proceed with the installation of a vertical bollard remote control has come to give way only to those vehicles.
Plaza Spain, prepared for the Easter processions
Since the Planning Department have indicated that last Saturday held a meeting on site to coordinate local actions to the different Easter processions take place without any problems for the works.
In fact, it is anticipated that the area is perfectly passable and prepared for all the processions are carried to term without any problems.
Francisco Garcia thanked the consensus and understanding shown by the Holy Week brotherhoods Lorca on this issue, and announced that during Holy Week will withdraw the existing machines, the works will cease, supplementary lighting is enabled and removed those objects involving architectural barriers to improve pedestrian access.
The final works are not expected to delay, so they will be finished by next June.
