The Socialist councilor, Francisca López, today called on the government team that the city of Lorca invoking the "Natural Roads Programme", Ministry of Environment, Rural and Marine, which can be given "alternative uses" the trails, abandoned roads or historic roads in disuse.
Lopez said that the infrastructure that meet scenic qualities, historical, and cultural environment can be turned into "natural ways" and thus "respond to the social demand for alternative tourism services, provide citizens and visitors access to a sports experience, cultural, education and contact with nature and promote sustainable development of the project area through enhancement of economic resources, the promotion of employment and settlement of people in their place of origin. "
The Socialist councilor said that the actions to be executed for these environmental infrastructure to adapt to their new use consists of two phases: an initial layout of infrastructure to be funded by the Secretary General for Territory and Biodiversity, through own budgets this center, and, secondly, the maintenance of the works carried out and management of recreational activities generated around these new facilities, whose costs would be borne by the City.
Lopez explained that this is an "excellent opportunity" to "highlight the value of" this type of infrastructure, among others, in the upper districts of Lorca and the coastal area of the municipality.
Since the inception of this program in 1993, have been built and put into service 30 routes involving a total of 955 kilometers and are currently under construction and 13 more.
The MIMAM investment by the end of 2002, more than 36.4 million euros and have benefited more than one hundred municipalities, among which are some of the region as Puerto Lumbreras and Bullas.
